Studio Cubed was recently select for inclusion with the Reality 3 product for Poser. We are very excited about the release of Reality 3 for Poser, which brings the power of LuxRender to the Poser world via an easy to use plug-in.
Studio Cubed is a fairly simple product but you may find you become addicted. It started its life as a simple white enclosure with all of the corners rounded. This acts much like a ‘product tent’ in the photography world. I’m sure you have seen photographs of products surrounded by a seamless white room. Studio Cubed is rather spacious as it is, large enough for most studio types of setups, even up to including a car. It can of course be scaled up or down as needed.
From there, I thought it would be nice to have a bit more flexibility. So, it was divided into a number of surface areas. It has the ‘Back Screen’, which is where a screen would be in a more traditional setup. There is the ‘Floor’, ‘Wall Left’, ‘Wall Right’ and ‘Ceiling’, which are all obvious. It also has a ‘Rear Mask’, which is turned off by default. This allows you to see into the room when arranging your lighting. When turned on it should be behind your camera. I have found when using the product as a fully white room, the rear mask can many times provide too much frontal light. Know that it is there and does provide a full enclosure. When using unbiased renderers, the light bounces from surface to surface. Working inside a full enclosure has benefits.
Each of those surfaces named above can be individually edited. You can show or hide or change the color on any one of them. Once you have fun with the pure white room, you could try setting the Back Screen to various colors. All of the surfaces are UV mapped, so you could also use an image on that surface or any number of the surfaces. And, with Reality, of course you can set any surface to a light. The Back Screen could be a moonlit night image used as a light.
The walls, ceiling and floor should also be considered. In a situation like this, the each of these surfaces acts as a reflector. If you set a side wall to red or blue, and at least some light hits the surface, you will see it reflected onto your model. The uses are only limited by your imagination. The way the light bounces about, can create some rather spectacular renders.
Dumor3D does hope you enjoy this product.
